I was pleasantly surprised to get a note from Parikhit to participate in a Quote Challenge. Thanks Parikhit! 🙂 Dear friends, if you have not read Parikhit’s blog, you are missing some beautiful and very vivid and heartfelt words. Please do move your fingers in that direction and enjoy as I do, his well-written and deep posts.
Coming to the challenge, these are the rules.
- Thank the selector
- Post 2 quotes for the dedicated topic of the day
- Select 3 bloggers to take part in ‘3.2.1 Quote Me Challenge’
- And give them a topic/word
There is no specific deadline, although it says topic of the day, and one can choose to answer whenever one wishes.
The word chosen by Parikhit is “Empathy.” My understanding of empathy is that it is a state where our heart expands to feel the heartbeat of another. It is much deeper than sympathy were we may feel pity and even help another person, but not resonate totally with their tears and heartache. I feel true empathy arises only from the depth of pure love and understanding of another’s heart.
Wonder if this makes sense to you guys? 🙂
I have experienced this kind of empathy in the presence of Amma (Mata Amritanandamayi Devi) a spiritual teacher from India.
She hugs people as a blessing and I have seen her literally shed copious tears with people whose lives were torn apart by a cyclone devastation. I have seen her laugh with glee holding hands of newly weds. And then again, I have felt her kiss on my forehead and her love in my heart – a love of total acceptance.
Here are two quotes from her that touch upon empathy for me. Would love to hear if its okay by you, dear Parikhit. 🙂
“Just as the right hand comes to dress the wound on the left hand, we should see another person’s sorrows as our own and come to his or her aid.”
“Plants and trees also have emotions and can feel fear. You can sense that if you have a compassionate heart.”
Three bloggers to take the quote challenge forward, if you like 🙂
