It had rained all afternoon, and the notorious Bangalore traffic was excelling itself in congestion. Our bus inched ahead like an ant on the branch of a Banyan tree.
Still, I was happy. I was standing in the ladies section of a Volvo town bus, and I would be home in three stops.
I idly glanced out of the window and saw a girl crossing the road with a T-shirt that said, “Don’t talk to me till your chakras are aligned.”
I had this vague idea that chakras are energy centers in our body, but what did it mean that they should be aligned? How to do that? Guess I would not be talking to that girl.
In self-help books, I had read about aligning your body and mind for peace and good health. But still, to talk to that girl, I need to align myself with her too, or so I thought. Why just her? If I am going to align myself, why not with all my family and friends.
I smiled feeling aligned with all my loved ones. The bus turned onto a highway, and my mind expanded along with it. I decided the alignment should be vast – with my community, state, nation, the world at large.
As I was feeling smug and happy to see the bus move ahead steadily, a lonely tree beckoned me and seemed to say, “What about me? Me and you?” Oh yes! I needed to add natural creation too in my alignment scheme – all of Mother Earth. This entire universe.
Suddenly, I felt overwhelmed.
Is it even possible to be aligned with all of existence?
How to begin moving in that direction?
There was a jerk as the bus came to an abrupt halt. A young man jumped in. His T-shirt answered me, “Good Vibes Only.”
He smiled at me. I smiled back.
The first step in my alignment journey.
